History esophageal stricture
Esophageal varices
Alkali ingestion
Comatose pts
Care with suspected C-Spine injury
Complications
Nasal irritation
Sinusitis
Epistaxis
Rhinorrhea
Skin erosion
Esophagotracheal fistula
Aspiration pneumonia
Hypoxia
Cyanosis
Respiratory arrest
Advantages of a small bore tube
Less trauma
Better pt tolerance
Disadvantages of a small bore tube
Dislocate easily
Prone to occlusion
Coiling
Advantages of a large bore tube
Less likely to occlude
Less likely to coil
Disadvantages of a large tube
-more trauma
-pt intolerance
