Tractor Brake

A

Test tractor by placing vehicle in gear. Release (push in) trailer brake (red) and tug slightly against tractor

Trailer Brake

A

Test trailer brake by placing vehicle in gear, release (push in) tractor brake yellow, and tug slightly against trailer

Service Brake

A

Test service brake by releasing (pushing in) both the tractor and trailer brakes (valves), move forward at 5mph.
Vehicle should stop and not pull to either side.

Rebuild air

A

Place vehicle back in neutral, engage (pull out) both valves (red and yellow) before rebuilding air pressure to the governor cutoff of 120 to 140 psi

Air Leak test

A

Place vehicle in first gear, turn engine off and immediately turn key back on (to ACC/ON), release (push in) both tractor and trailer brakes
(red and yellow valves), ask examiner to time you for 1 minute.
Depress brake pedal until examiner says “TIME”.
You shouldn’t lose more than 4 pounds of air pressure (4 psi) within 1 minute.

Low air test

A

Depress brake pedal rapidly, the warning light or buzzer should come on BEFORE air pressure drops BELOW 55 psi

Pop out valve test

A

Continue depressing the brake pedal rapidly, both valves should pop out when the air pressure reaches approximately 40 psi.
DO NOT ASSIST VALVES IN POPPING OUT and WATCH CLOSELY AS THEY MAY POP OUT SILENTLY

Final Step

A

Make sure vehicle is in neutral.
Brakes engaged and engine off.
Then say “This concludes my in-cab inspection”.
