Next Flashcards
What is the function of the tube housing?
It enclosed and supports the X-ray tube, dissipates heat created within the tube, provides electrical insulation, and absorbs any radiation generated by the tube except for the primary beam
Requirements of the tube housing from a radiation protection standpoint?
The housing’s ability to absorb anything other than the useful/primary beam from the ionizing radiation created at the anode disk. Eliminate leakage radiation
What does the control panel do?
Allows the radiographer to set exposure conditions and select the IR being utilized. It must also positively and clearly indicate when the exposure is taking place. Also must have a short cord to ensure radiographer is behind protective barrier.
Exposure conditions
kVp, mAs, time, and mA
Mobile units must
Have a chord or control that permits the radiographer to be 6 feet away from the unit
Leakage radiation comes from ____ whereas Scatter radiation comes from _____
The tube housing; patient
