Newtons Laws of Motion vocab Flashcards
force
a push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object
motion
change in position over time
net force
the combination of all forces acting upon a object
speed
distance traveled per rate of time. speed=distance/time
velocity
the speed and direction of an object
acceleration
the rate at which velocity changes over time
Newtons first law
an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
Newtons second law
force=mass x acceleration
Newtons third law
for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction
inertia
the tendency to resist to be moved or if the object is moving to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force act on the object
friction
a force that resists motion
mass
the amount of matter in an object
gravity
an attractive that exists between all objects that have mass
