Newtons laws of motion Flashcards
force
a push or pull exerted on an object in order to change its motion
motion
a change in position overtime
net force
the combination of all forces acting on an object
speed
distance traveled per rate of time
speed = distance/time
velocity
the speed and direction of an object
acceleration
the rate at which velocity changes overtime
Newtons first law
an object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
Newtons second law
Force = mass x acceleration
Newtons third law
for every action theres an equal opposite reaction
inertia
the tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an opposite force acts on the object
friction
a force that resist motion
mass
the amount of matter in an object
gravity
an attractive force that exists between all objects to have mass
