Newtons Laws And Momentum And Moments Flashcards
What is newtons 1st law.
An object that has balanced forces acting on it remains at rest or in motion.
What is newtons 2nd law
The acceleration of an object is dependent on the magnitude of the force acting on it and the mass. F=Ma
What is newtons 3rd law
When two objects interact they produces an equal and opposite reaction.
What is the equation for momentum
Momentum = mass x velocity
P=mv
What is the principle of conservation of momentum
The total momentum before an event is the same as after the event as long as no external forces act.
What is an impulse?
Change in moment
What is the equation for change in momentum
F= change in momentum / change in time
What is the resultant force in terms of momentum
Rate of change of momentum
What is the principle of moments
If an object is in equilibrium (forces are balanced) then total anti-clockwise moments = total clockwise moments.
What must be met for an object to be in equilibrium
An object must have no resultant force and no resultant moment acting upon it
