Newtons Laws Flashcards
Newtons First Law
An object continues in a state of rest or uniform velocity unless it is acted upon by a net force
Inertia
The property of a body that resists any change in its state or rest or motion.
It is not a force
Newtons Second Law
When a net force is applied to an object it accelerates in the direction of the net force. The acceleration is directly proportional to the net force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object
Forces in Equilibrium
This is when an object is at rest or moving at constant velocity therefore fnet = 0 and a=0
Newtons Third Law
When object A exerts a force on object B, object B simultaneously exerts an oppositely directed force of equal magnitude on object A
