Newtons Laws Flashcards
Momentum
A quantity defined as the product of mass and velocity of an object
Makes u harder to stop
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes over time. An object accelerates If its speed or direction or both changes
Terminal velosity
The constant velocity of a falling object when a force of air resistance is equal in magnitude but opposite in direction of gravity
Free fall
The Motion of a body when only the force of gravity is acting on the body
Only occurs in outerspace and a air vacuums in the science lab
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist movement and if the object is already moving to resist a change of speed or direction unless acted on by an outside force
Projectile motion
The curved path that an object fallows when throw launched or otherwise projected near the surface of the earth
Air resistance
The force that opposes motion through the air
What did Galileo figure out about all falling objects
The mass of the object does not effect the time it takes to fall to the ground
What is the equation associated with Newton’s second law
Acceleration =force/mass
Force =mass*acceleration
What does Newton’s first law say
Anything at rest will remain at rest and anything in motion will remain in motion at a constant speed in a straight line forever until an outside force acts on it
What does Newton’s second law say
The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of an object an the amount of force that is applied
What are action reaction force pairs
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Example you exert a force on the chair the chair is exerting the same amount of force on u
What is an unbalanced force
When a net force is not 0 newtons They cause a change in Motion such as a change in speed or direction they cause a non moving object to start moving
EX FRICTION
What’s Newton’s third law of motion
When ever an object exerts a force on another object the the same object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first
All forces occur in pairs
What is the law of the conservation of momentum
When a moving object hits another object all the momentum is transferred to the object that is hit
What is the equation to solve momentum
P=mxv
