Newtons laws Flashcards
1
Q
What is newton’s first law? what is the formula for it
A
An object will remain at rest or travel at a constant speed until a resultant force acts upon it
Inertial mass = force/ acceleration
2
Q
What is newton’s second law? what is the formula for it?
A
The acceleration of an object increases if the resultant force on it increases, and decreases if the mass of the object increases
resultant force = mass x acceleration
3
Q
What is the law of conservation of momentum
A
States that in any system of objects, the total momentum always stays the same.
This applies unless an external force also acts after collision
Total momentum before collision = Total momentum after collision
