Forces Flashcards
How do you calculate speed?
distance/time = speed in m/s
How do you calculate acceleration?
change in speed(m/s) / time = acceleration in m/s^2
What is the letter formula for acceleration?
(v-u) / t
v = final velocity
u = initial velocity
What is a vector?
A quantity of unit and magnitude with direction
What is a scalar?
A quantity of unit and magnitude without direction
What is magnitude?
The size of something
What is the difference between distance and displacement?
Distance is how far an object has travelled and displacement is how far away an object is from its initial point
What is a newton?
Roughly the force required to lift a 100g mass up to 1metre
What is resultant force?
The overall force that is acting on an object after adding up the individual forces and finding the difference. This singular force represents the total force acting upon the object
E. G.
6N up and 5N down, 1 newton difference so it is travelling 1N up
What is Newton’s first law mass?
An object will remain at rest(stationary) or travel at a consistent speed unless a resulting force acts upon it
How do you describe the forces acting on an object with 0 resultant force?
There is no overall force or the forces are balanced
