Newtons law of motion Flashcards
Net force
The vector sum of all forces that act on an object
weight force
A gravitational force the earth exerts on any object near or on its surface .
Normal force
The peperndicular force exetered by a surface on an object in contact with it
Frictional force
The force that opposes motion of an object.
Newtons first law
An object continues in a state of rest or uniform velocity unless it is acted upon by a net or resultant force
Inertia
Tendency of an object to resist any changes to its state of motion.
How do you measure inertia
using mass
Newtons third law
When object A exerts a force on object B, object B simultaneously exerts an oppositely directed force of equal magnitude on object A.
Newtons second law
When a net force is applied to an object, it accelerates to the dircetion of the net froce
Static friction
Frictional force is equal to applied force
Kinetic friction
When the object begins to move
Momentum
property which applies to moving object
Impulse
the product of a net force and time of contact
The law of conservation
The total linear momentum of an isolated sytem remains constant
Isolated sytem
No external forces
