Newtons Law Flashcards
What is Newton’s first law ?
They cancel each other out
What happens to balanced forces ?
They cancel each other out
What is Newton’s second law ?
Resultant force = mass x acceleration
F=ma
What is Newton’s third law ?
If Body A exerts a force on Body B, then Body B exerts an equal and opposite force on Body A
What does weight mean ?
Force of gravity on an object
Weight = mass x gravitational field strength
What does mass mean ?
Amount of matter in an object
What changes when you go to space, weight or mass ?
Weight
What are two forces working on a skydiver ?
Air resistance = up
Weight = down
What happens to a skydiver when he jumps out of a plane ? [6 marks]
AR = smaller than weight, causes skydiver to accelerate
When accelerate, AR increases
This continues until AR is equal and opposite to weight. Forces are balanced so travelling at constant speed
When parachute opened, forces unbalanced. AR increases so larger than weight
As skydiver slows, AR decreases to make forces equal. They reach a new lower terminal speed
What is the gravitational field strength on Earth ?
10N/kg
