Newtons Flashcards
Efficiency
the state or quality of being efficient.
Work
activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
Mechanical advantage
the ratio of the force produced by a machine to the force applied to it, used in assessing the performance of a machine.
Energy
power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.
Kinetic energy
energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion.
Potential energy
the energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position relative to others, stresses within itself, electric charge, and other factors.
Electric potential energy
(measured in joules) that results from conservative Coulomb forces and is associated with the configuration of a particular set of point charges within a defined system.
Chemical potential energy
In thermodynamics, chemical potential, also known as partial molar free energy, is a form of potential energy that can be absorbed or released during a chemical reaction. It may also change during a phase transition.
Gravitational potential energy
Gravitational potential energy is energy an object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field. The most common use of gravitational potential energy is for an object near the surface of the Earth where the gravitational acceleration can be assumed to be constant at about 9.8 m/s^2
Law of conversation of energy
In physics, the law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system remains constant—it is said to be conserved over time.
