Newtons 1st law Flashcards
what happens on a balanced force
an object will remain at rest or continue moving with constant speed
how can friction in moving parts be reduced
- using a lubricant such as oil or wax
- polishing surfaces
- reducing the contact area
what is air resistance
is the name given to the force of friction when object travel through the air
what does Drag mean
given to the force of friction when objects travel through liquids
what does steamline mean
if a shape is streamlined {like a car} they have a narrow, smooth shape that moves through a fluid easily
what is friction
is a force that acts to resist movement
what is a force
A force is a push or a pull.
Forces can change
> the speed of an object.
the direction of an object.
the shape of an object.
Forces are measured using a….
Newton meter in newtons (N).
Friction can be useful
- Car tyres
- Brakes
- Rock climbing
Friction can be increased by
- Rougher surfaces
- Chalk powder
- Pressing surfaces together
Friction can be a nuisance/ {can be annoyed}
- Moving parts of a car engine/chain
* Pushing heavy box
what happens When forces are unbalanced,
the speed will change, i.e. the object will accelerate or decelerate.
what is the law
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force
