Q

how do you measure acceleratiion

A

The instantaneous speed of the trolley can be measured at the bottom of the slope by using the time (seconds) the trolley takes to pass a light gate connected to an electronic timer and the length of the card on top of the trolley (metres). The speed is calculated by using;

-v= length of card
time through light gate

This speed is the finishing speed of the trolley in metres per second (m/s)

These measurements can then be used to calculate the acceleration of the trolley (m/s/s) as it moves down the runway using;

-Acceleration = change in speed
time taken
