Newton's Third Law Vocab Flashcards
Collide/Collision
To strike or hit something with any amount of force.
Force
A push or pull that can change the motion of an object.
Motion
The change in an objects position. Its movement.
Newton (N)
Unit of measurement for force.
Newton’s Law of Action-Reaction
For every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. 3rd law of motion
Spring Scale
Tool that measures a pulling force by the tension on a spring in units of newton.
Mass
A measure of the amount of matter in an object, usually measured in grams.
Newton’s First Law of Motion
A body at rest remains at rest, a body in motion continues to move at a constant velocity unless acted upon by external force.
Newtons Second Law of Motion
Acceleration is directly proportional to force and inversely proportional to mass.
Balanced Force
IF all forces acting on a particular object are balanced so that the net force is “0”, the object will not accelerate.
Unbalanced Force
Causes acceleration if one force is not balanced by another force.
Contact Force
A force that is applied by objects in contact with each other.
Reference Point
A point used to find or describe the location or motion of something.
Weight
The force exerted on a mass by gravity, measured in newtons (N).
