newton's laws of motion vocabulary Flashcards
forces
A push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object
motion
A change in position over time
net force
the combination of all the forces acting on an abject
speed
distance traveled per rate of time .
Speed= distance/time
velocity
the speed and direction of an abject.
Acceleration
the rate at which velocity changes over time
newton/s law
An abject at rest will remain at rest and and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
newton’s second law
force= mass x acceleration
newton’s third law
for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
inertia
the tendency of an abject to resits being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on the object.
friction
A force that resist motion
mass
the amount matter in an abject
gravity
An attractive force that exist between all object that have mass
