Newton's Laws of Motion Vocabulary Flashcards
Force
A push or a pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object.
Motion
A change in position over time.
Net force
The combination of all the force acting on an object.
Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time. speed=distance time
Velocity
The speed and direction of an object.
Acceleration
The rate at which velocity changes over time.
Newton’s First Law
An object rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
Newton’s second law
Force= Mass x acceleration
Newton’s Last Law
For every action there is a equal but opposite reaction.
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or to the object is moving to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force act on the object.
Friction
A force that resists motion
Mass
The amount of matter in a object
