Newton's laws of motion Flashcards
Definition of force
Push or pull effect that alters, or tends to alter the state of motion of the body
What 5 things are forces needed to do?
Create motion Cause deceleration Cause acceleration Cause a change in direction Change the shape of a body
What is Newton’s first law?
Law of inertia
What is the definition of the law of inertia?
A body will remain at rest or uniform velocity until acted upon by an external force.
What is the definition of inertia?
The resistance of a body to change it’s state of motion
What is the definition of velocity?
The rate of motion in a particular direction
What is Newton’s second law?
Law of acceleration
What is the definition for the law of acceleration?
The acceleration of a body is proportional to the magnitude of the force and takes place in the direction in which the force acts.
What is the definition of acceleration?
The rate of change of velocity/momentum
What is the definition of momentum?
The quantity of motion possessed by a moving body
What is acceleration inversely proportional to?
Mass
However, muscle = more force so more acceleration. Fat mass = no more force so decrease acceleration
What is Newton’s third law?
Law of reaction
What is the definition of the law of reaction?
For every force exerted by one body on another there is an equal and opposite force exerted by the second body on the first.
What is the definition of action force?
The force exerted by the performer in another body
What is the definition of reactive force?
An equal and opposite force to the action force exerted by the second body on the first
