Linear motion Flashcards
What is the definition of linear motion?
When a body/part of a body moves in a straight or curved line with all its parts moving in the same; distance, direction and speed
How is linear motion created?
When a forces line of application passes directly through the centre of mass
Termed a direct force
Apply Newtons 3rd law to jumping?
They apply an action force to the ground which then applies a reaction force that passes through the centre of mass causing linear motion upwards.
What is the definition of distance?
The length of the path taken by a body moving from 1 position to another
What is the definition of displacement?
The shortest straight line route between 2 points
What is the definition of speed?
The movement of a body per unit of time (without reference to direction)
What is the definition of velocity?
The rate of change in displacement
Speed in a given direction
What is the definition of acceleration/deceleration?
The rate of change of velocity
Change in velocity in the time taken to make the change
What is distance measured in?
m
What is displacement measured in?
m
What is speed measured in?
m/s
What is velocity measured in?
m/s
What is acceleration measured in?
