Newton's Laws of motion Flashcards
What is Force
A Push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object.
What is Motion
A change in position over time.
What is Net force
The combination of all the forces acting on an object
What is Speed
Distance traveled per rate of time
Speed = distance/time
What is Velocity
The speed and direction of an object
What is acceleration
The rates at which velocity changes over time
What is Newtons First Law
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
What is Newton’s Second Law
Force = mass x acceleration
What is Newton’s third law
For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction
What is inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on the object.
What is Friction
A force that resists motion
What is Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
What is Gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
