newton's laws Flashcards
newtons first law of motion:
when the forces acting on an object are balanced, the motion of the object stays the same
in newtons first law, a stationary object
stays stationary
in newtons first law, a moving object
does not get faster/slower/change direction
it travels at a constant speed in a straight line
newtons 2nd law of motion:
when an unbalanced force acts on an object, the acceleration is directly proportional to the unbalanced force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object
resultant force, mass, acceleration equation:
F = ma
newtons third law:
every force causes an equal and opposite force
when 2 objects interact, the force between them is
the same in both directions
action-reaction forces occur
between 2 different objects
in action-reactions, each force
acts on 1 of the objects
