Newton's Law of motion Flashcards
1
Q
What is Newton’s First Law?
A
- law of inertia
- a body will remain in a state of rest or uniform velocity unless acted upon by an external or unbalanced force e.g. football
2
Q
give an example of N1
A
a football will remain on the spot until a force is applied from the players foot
3
Q
what is Newton’s Second Law?
A
- law of acceleration
- the acceleration of a body is proportional to the size of the force applied and takes place in the direction in which the force acts
- f = ma
4
Q
give an example of N2
A
the acceleration of a netball during a pass is proportional to the force from the players hand and is in the same direction as the force
5
Q
What is Newtons Third Law?
A
- law of reaction
- for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, the reaction force is equal in size and opposite direction to the action force
6
Q
give an example of N3
A
as a runner pushes downwards and backwards of the sprint blocks (action force), the block pushes upwards and forwards to move the runner forward (reaction force: friction)
