Newton's Law of motion Flashcards

1
Q

What is Newton’s First Law?

A
  • law of inertia
  • a body will remain in a state of rest or uniform velocity unless acted upon by an external or unbalanced force e.g. football

Q

what is Newton’s Second Law?

A
  • law of acceleration
  • the acceleration of a body is proportional to the size of the force applied and takes place in the direction in which the force acts
  • f = ma

Q

give an example of N2

A

the acceleration of a netball during a pass is proportional to the force from the players hand and is in the same direction as the force

Q

What is Newtons Third Law?

A
  • law of reaction
  • for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, the reaction force is equal in size and opposite direction to the action force

Q

give an example of N3

A

as a runner pushes downwards and backwards of the sprint blocks (action force), the block pushes upwards and forwards to move the runner forward (reaction force: friction)
