Newton and Momentum Flashcards
Newtons First Law of Motion
Every body continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless acted on by some external force.
Define Inertia
The tendency of matter to retain its state of rest or of uniform motion.
(mass)
Archimedean Upthrust
Force experienced on object is equal to the weight of fluid displaced.
Newtons Second Law of Motion
The rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the external force acting on the body.
(F=ma)
Newtons Third Law of Motion
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Principle of Conservation of Momentum
The total linear momentum of a system of interacting bodies on which no external forces are acting, remains constant.
Define Impulse
Impulse is the change in momentum
