Response to nipple or examiner’s finger in mouth
Rooting reflex – describe
Head turns to side of a facial stimulus
Moro reflex – describe
Hold baby supine and support head, back, and legs. Suddenly, lower the entire body about 2 feet and stop abruptly.
Infants arms briskly abduct and extend, with the hands open and fingers extended while the legs flex slightly and abduct
Tonic neck reflex – describe
Baby supine, turn the head to one side, holding the jaw over the baby’s shoulder.
The baby’s arm and leg extend on the same side as the head turns towards them, while the contralateral arm and leg flex.
Placing reflex – describe
Hold the baby upright from behind, under the arms and allow the dorsum of one foot to touch the undersurface of a tabletop. Baby will flex the hip and knee and place the stimulated foot on the table.
Grasp reflex – describe
Placement of examiner’s finger in the neonate’s palm – infant grasps finger
