breastfeeding
A
- Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended by the AAP for the first 6 months of life
- Newborns should feed about every 2-3 hours or 8-12 times per day on demand
- Cluster feeding, colostrum for the first 1-3 days
- Newborns require 110 kcal/kg/day
- Newborns usually have a 5-10% weight loss after birth which they regain in the first 2 weeks
- Breastfeeding is HARD!!!!!!

bottle feeding
A
- Feeding every 3-4 hours
- Preparing formula properly
- Cleaning bottles/supplies
- Baby should be in 45 degree angle, milk should be in nipple (no air)
- Paced feeding
- Burping
- Prepared formula should be consumed within 1 hour (can be refrigerated for 24 hours)

A
- Car seat: 45 degress angle
- Don’t leave baby unattended with pets or other small children
- Keep small objects away from baby (they put everything into their mouths and can choke)
- Don’t leave baby alone on bed/couch/table
- Back to sleep, proper sleeping surfaces
- Fire and safety hazards
- Smoke exposure
- Infection control
- Shaken baby syndrome
