APGAR SCORING SYSTEM
APGAR SCORING SYSTEM is taken?
1 minute and 5 minutes after birth
For distressed infants the scoring is taken
every 5 minutes until stable to ensure the well adjustment and to monitor any abnormalities and
defects
This indicates necessity for resuscitation
1-minute score
This predicts mortality and neurologic deficits
5-minute score
when the body is deprived of oxygen causing
unconsciousness or even suffocation
Asphyxiated
abnormalities of fetal physiologic functioning that needs immediate attention
Distress
order of importance
→ Heart rate
→ Respiratory rate
→ Muscle tone
→ Reflex irritability
→ Color
High pitched cry indicates?
Hypoglycemia, increased Intra Cranial Pressure
