resp: 30-60 heart rate: 110/120-160 tep: 97.6 glucose: 40-80; 45-90 length: 18-22cm weight 5.5-9lbs
apnea
pause in breathing longer than 20 seconds
signs/ symptoms of respiratory distress
- flaring of nares
- increased respiratory rate
- grunting
- dusky color
- cyanosis
- decreased muscle tone (exhausted)
- muscle retraction
cardiovascular pattern
- while in mom low systemic resistance (bp), high pulmonary resistance
- after cord clamped high systemic resistance (bp), low pulmonary resistance
placenta
2 arteries, 1 vein
acrocyanosis
trunk pink, extremities bllue
signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia
jitters, apnea, abnormal cry, cardiac arrest/failure, cyanosis, diaphoresis, hypothermia, irritability, lethargy, muscle twitching, poor feeding, respiratory distress, seizures, tachypnea, tachycardia, tremors
signs and symptoms of hypothermia
body cold to touch, central cyanosis, poor feeding, bradycardia, restlessness, decreased activity, pallor/mottling, tachypnea, hypoglycemia, acrocyanosis, weak suck, hypotonia, irritability, lethargy, feeble cry, apnea, shallow/irregular respirations

primary source of heat in hypothermia increase metabolism to break down fat

baby toes cur when inner sole of foot stroked
Babinski refex
baby spreads toes when outer sole of foot is stroked
Moro reflex
startle reflex triggered by noise or dropping
infants spreads legs/arms
fencing reflex
infant on stomach, stroke neck to spine back curves to side you are touching
step reflex
holding infant under arms, touch feet to flat surface takes “Steps”
disappears at 2-3 months and returns at 10-15months
