7
Q

How do you produce soluble salts?

A

excess metal is added to the appropriate acid; the mixture is filtered and the filtrate evaporated to dryness

19
Q

What is an Alloy?

A

An alloy is a mixture of 2 or more elements where atleast one element is metal.

20
Q

Why are alloys made?

A

To increase strength, to increase corrosion resistance, to make cheaper

21
Q

What is an everyday example of an alloy?

A

A gold ring is made of gold and copper, as it cannot be pure gold. Gold is too flimsy.

22
Q

Aluminium metal is used to make aircraft, saucepans, window frames and cooking foil. State 3 properties which make it suitable for the use it is put

A

Conducts heat, flexible, lightweight

23
Q

What is it meant by recycling metals?

A

To turn old, unused metals into something new.

24
Q

why do we recycle metals?

A

Metals don’t decompose, and are in high demand. Therefore, we recycle metals to stop pollution and save our metal supply.

25
Q

How does metals being packaged under oil indicate the reactivity of the metals

A

The metals react quickly with oxygen and therefore have to be packaged under oil to prolong their use. This lets us know that the metals being packaged are highly reactive.

26
Q

When reacting a metal with oxygen, what chemical was used to provide the oxygen?

A

Potassium permangate
