- HONESTY and INTEGRITY
Members and firms must be honest, act with integrity and comply with their professional obligations, including obligations to RICS
- COMPETENCE
Members and firms must maintain their professional competence and ensure that services are provided by competent individuals who have the necessary expertise - SERIVCE
Members and firms must provide good-quality and diligent Service - RESPECT
Members and firms must treat others with respect and encourage diversity and inclusion - RESPONSIBILITY
Members and firms must act in the public interest, take responsibility for their actions and act to prevent harm and maintain public confidence in the profession

Why have the Rules of Conduct been updated?
To address challenges relating to sustainability, the use of data, and diversity and inclusion.
The changes are intended to help the global profession respond to new risks and opportunities.
What has changed in the new Rules of Conduct?
Single document replaces rules for members and rues for firms.

What is the New rules of conduct nr 1 and some of the example behaviors?
Members and firms must be honest, act with integrity and comply with their professional obligations, including obligations to RICS
Example behaviors:
Don’t be improperly influenced by others (giving/receiving gift)
Don’t provide services where there is a Conflict of Interest
What is the New rules of conduct nr 2 and some of the example behaviors?
Members and firms must maintain their professional competence and ensure that services are provided by competent individuals who have the necessary expertise
Example behaviors:
- Members must maintain and develop their knowledge and skill throughout their careers and undertake CPD
- Stay up to date, and comply with legislation
What is the New rules of conduct nr 3 and some of the example behaviors?
Members and firm must provide good quality and diligent service
Example behaviors:
• Firms have effective quality assurance processes
- Understanding the clients needs and objectives
- Agreeing a scope of service with the clients (timescales etc)
What is the New rules of conduct nr 4 and some of the example behaviors?
Members and firm must treat others with respect and encourage diversity and inclusion
Example behaviours:
• Respect the rights of others and treat others with courtesy
- Treat everyone fairly and don’t discriminant
- Don’t bully, victimise or harass anyone
- Develop an inclusive culture, with equal opportunities and identify and address unconscious bias
What is the New rules of conduct nr 5 and some of the example behaviors?
Members and firm must act in the public interest, take responsibility for their actions and act to prevent harm and maintain public confidence in the profession.
Example behaviours:
- Ensure public statements do not undermine public confidence in the profession (social media posts)
- Take appropriate action when the rules of conduct have been breached, including reporting significant breaches to RICS
