Results of No cost LARC & Teen pregnancy study
A
- Average pregnancy, abortion, birth much lower then US average of same age group
preg 34 vs 156/ 1000
birth 19 vs 95/ 1000
abortion 9 vs 41/1000 - followed up 12mo (92%), 24 (82%), 36 (75%) through phone, survey
- LARC shown to be acceptable to teens, higher continuation rate then shorter action methods
- Barriers: cost, lack of information, limited access

Limitations of No cost LARC & Teen pregnancy study

- Pregnancy was self-reported & therefore could be underreported
- Teens were surveyed regularly on their contraceptive use which may have influenced their adherence to their contraceptive method
- Generalizability of results
- Comparison of results of cohort with mean national rate which has a drop/decline in birth rate, study done in 2006, rates 2008-2013
