Non optic symptoms of GCA
Jaw claudication Muscle aches/headache Scalp tenderness Diplopia Temporal artery beading, prominence, or tenderness
What can you see on fundoscopy in a brain tumor?
Swollen optic nerve
Blurred margins
Thin arteries, disc hemorrhages
Cotton wool spots
Polymyalgia rheumatica
Associated with GCA
Inflammation of the bursa and periarticular structures
Aching and stiffness in proximal muscle groups
Symptoms worse in AM
Treatment for GCA
High dose steroids
Not to improve the vision in the poor eye, but to prevent it from effecting the other eye
CN3 sits right under what artery?
Posterior communicating artery (can be compressed by an aneursym)
SNOOP
Systemic findings Neurologic symptoms Onset sudden, older than 40 or 50 Other red flags Pattern change
Is the superficial temporal artery the source of vision loss in GCA?
No!
It’s where the diagnosis is made and where the biopsy happens though
GCA puts you at higher risk for what type of strokes?
Vertebrobasilar strokes

When is neuroimaging required if you suspect a CN3 palsy?
Incomplete 3rd nerve palsy
Pupil involvement
