Patient with neutrophi count of <0.5x10(9)
AND EITHER
1. Temp >38oC
2. Clinical signs of sepsis

A
Typically 10-14 days after chemotherapy
ORGANISMS
Gram +Ve/-ve bacteria
Atypical bacteria (pneumocystis carinii pneumonia PCP)
Fungal

A
Pyrexia (>38oC) Rigors Rash Inflammation Infective symptoms Hypotension

BLOODS
WBC
Lactate
Hb
CULTURES
Blood
Swabs from IV line

Management
A
- Empirical antibiotics e.g. Tazocin IMMEDIATELY
- Narrow-spectrum antibiotics when culture through from microbiologists
Fluids if hypotensive
