Neutralisation Flashcards
1
Q
What is neutralisation?
A
Neutralisation is the reaction between an acid and an alkali.
2
Q
When a neutral substance is formed why does it become a new substance + water?
A
Because the substance becomes neutral an acid + alkali becomes a new substance + water. The water is there because water is one of the few neutral substances on the pH scale.
3
Q
Give an example of neutralisation.
A
An alkali for example a jellyfish sting is a soluble base so to cancel out the jellyfish sting you would need an acid. This is an example of a neutral reaction.
