Neutralisation Flashcards
What are acids
Substances which dissociate ( split up) in water to form particles called ions. This idea came from Swedish chemists Arrhenius in the late 19th century.
What are bases
Substances which mix with alkalis’s and acids to give a salt and water mixture it often neutralises the acids to give a salt and water mixture
What are alkalis
Bases which are soluble enough to melt in water
What are Indicators
Chemicals that give off the ph and solution of an acid or alkali. They cause a colour change which causes the ph result
What are some examples of indicators and what results do they show
Universal = shows ph level of an acid or alkali
Litmus paper = defines an acid or alkali by colour
What would be the outcome if acidic rain landed on a steel roof
The rain would corrode through the steel roof and harm whatever is inside
