What are acids

A

Substances which dissociate ( split up) in water to form particles called ions. This idea came from Swedish chemists Arrhenius in the late 19th century.

What are bases

A

Substances which mix with alkalis’s and acids to give a salt and water mixture it often neutralises the acids to give a salt and water mixture

A

Bases which are soluble enough to melt in water

What are Indicators

A

Chemicals that give off the ph and solution of an acid or alkali. They cause a colour change which causes the ph result

What are some examples of indicators and what results do they show

A

Universal = shows ph level of an acid or alkali
Litmus paper = defines an acid or alkali by colour
