Q

trace the radial artery

A
  • branch of brachialis
  • deep to brachioradialis with superficial branch of radial nerve
  • > recurrent branch near brachial bifurcation
    • goes between brachioradialis and brachialis
    • meets with radial collateral a. from profunda brachii a.
  • > branches in distal forearm to make superficial palmar branch
    • goes through thenar eminence
  • main radial a goes posteriolaterally at wrist through the anatomical snuffbox
  • enters hand dorsally b/t first dorsal interosseous muscle
  • <=>splits to
    • deep palmar arch b/t adductor pollicis and interosseous muscles toward ulnar side and goes to 3 palmar metacarpal a.
    • recurrent branch to scaphoid

Q

trace the ulnar artery

A
  • branch of brachial artery
  • > quickly branches to common interosseous
    • <=> splits into anterior and posterior interosseous
    • anterior interosseous travels with anterior interosseous nerve (branch of median n.)
    • posterior interosseous goes through I/O
    • they are terminal branches
      • goes deep to the pronator teres and posterior to median nerve
  • > branches to anterior ulnar recurrent a. going back medially to inferior ulnar collateral within the cubital fossa
  • > branches to posterior ulnar recurrent a. slightly more distal and going back to the superior ulnar collateral a.
  • distally, ulnar a. continues b/t FDP and FCU
  • enters hand lateral to ulnar nerve
  • through Guyon’s canal
  • > branches at the pisiform, gives rise to deep palmar arch
  • becomes superficial palmar arch
    • goes to 3 common palmar digital a. and paired proper palmar digital a

Q

trace the ulnar nerve

A
  • from the medial cord
  • goes posterior elbow joint via cubital tunnel
  • enters anterior compartment of the forearm b/t heads of FCU
  • > provides dorsal cutaneous branch in distal forearm - to dorsal hand
  • bifurcates near or within Guyon’s canal
    • superficial branch -goes superficially toward digits 4-5
    • deep branch - pierces hypothenar eminence to then arch laterally rhough deep palm on the anterior surfaces of teh interossi muscles then ending in the adductor pollicis

Q

trace the median nerve

A
  • from combo of lateral and medial cords of brachial plexus
  • enters the anterior compartment of the forearm b/t the two heads of the pronator teres
  • goes deep surface of FDS via the tendonous arch of the FDS
  • > anterior interosseous n.
  • > superficial palmar branch prior to carpal tunnel
  • goes through carpal tunnel anteriorly and laterally
  • > recurrent branch just distal to carpal tunnel
    • goes over FPB then pierces b/t FPB and APB to access OP
  • <=> divides into common palmar digital nerves after exiting the carpal tunnel
    • each common gives rise to proper palmar digital branches
  • follows deep surface of palmar aponeurosis to innervate 1 and 2 lumbricals

Q

trace the radial nerve

A
  • from posterior cord of brachial plexus
  • goes through the triceps
  • goes anterior to elbow joint, deep to brachioradialis
  • <=> bifurcates into superficial and deep branch
    • >superficial goes deep to brachioradialis with radial a. (goes laterally and posteriorly to access dorsal hand)
    • >deep branch passes b/t heads of supinator to become posterior interosseous nerve (travels with artery of same name in a fascial plane b/t superficial and deep muscles. along pollicis and indicis muscles
