Inhibitory neurotransmitter.
produce relation, sleepiness, reduces the experience
of anxiety
Too much GABA
coma, stop breathing, death
Too little GABA
convulsion, seizures
Glutamate (gas pedal in the brain)
excitatory neurotransmitters
- major role in learning and memory
Too much Glutamate
produce cell death/neurotoxic effects
Too little Glutamate
impairs learning and memory
Serotonin
Mood - less serotonin - experience depression
Appetite - more serotonin - increase appetite
Sexual behaviour - more serotonin - decreases sexual libido (lead to development of sexual dysfunction)
Pain and Sensitivity - less serotonin - more sensitive to pain (physical/psychological)
Anxiety - more/less serotonin - associated w/ anxiety
Aggression - more/less serotonin - associated w/ aggression
Neuropinephrine
Arousal, attention, vigilance
Sympathetic Nervous System - fight or flight (activates stress and anxiety system)
