Q

Partial agonsit

A

High affinity and High efficacy. Ex. Buprenorphine binds and only has minimal efficacy (reduces severity of withdrawal)

Q

Anatagonist

A

High affinity and No efficacy. When it binds it does nothing. But take more of the agonist and it will undue benefit of antagonist.

Q

Excitatory Neurotransmitters (Glutamate)

A

binds to post synaptic receptor and opens ion channel, leading to influx of sodium. It makes neuron more positive - depolarization (increasing chances of action potential firing)

Q

Inhibitory Neurotransmitters (GABA)

A

binds to post synaptic receptor and opens ion channel, leading to influx of calcium and potassium. Makes neuron more negative - hyperpolarization - decreasing chance of action potential firing)
