neurotransmission Flashcards
what are neurotransmitters
chemical messenger that carries signals between neurons
what is the aim in rogers and kesners study
to determine the role of ACh in the formation of spatial memory
what is the procedure in rogers and kesners study
30 rats, 2 conditions, taught maze, one group injected with scopolamine into the hippocampus, other group with saline. 5 trials per day.
what was the conclusion of rogers and kesners study
ACh plays an important role in the formation of spatial memory.
what two studies can be used for neurotransmission
rogers and kesner and troster and beatty
what study uses rats
rogers and kesners
what is the aim of troster and beattys study
to determine the role of ACh in the formation and retrieval of memory
what was the procedure of troster and beatty
participants underwent 3 conditions, placebo, 0.5mg of scopolamine and 0.8mg of scopolamine. 3 tests; free recall, new map and remote battery.
what is the free recall test
given a list of words then had to recall them straight away and then again after 40 mins.
what is the new map test
given a map of a made up place had to memorise the places and then after 1 min put the places onto the map.
what is the remote battery test
given 150 famous faces and asked if they recognised them (based on retrieval of LTM)
