Too many limits

No limits. Not in touch with reality. Eg if I don’t like someone I will hurt them

Looking to the future and seeing the possibility of something negative

What are 3 influences on Anxiety?
- Hereditary - Jing, family, culture
- Social - If I feel protected and cared for by those around me then there is less chance of anxiety
- Behaviour - Think about something that makes you afraid and try to avoid it. Situation, people, objects etc

- Panic
- Phobic
- Other
What causes panic anxiety?
People who experience a panic attack and become anxious about a reoccurrence
What is a situation Panic?
An old memory or trigger from original situation can induce a panic attack. Sometimes not sure what the original trauma is. Eg red scarf story (blood)
What are the TCM syndromes associated with panic anxiety?
LV qi stag, LV yang rising, Internal wind
What is an unexpected panic attack?
Person is shocked by an unknown trigger which slowly builds up in the system as it can not be digested. LV qi stagnates, excess accumulates then reaches a peak and induces a panic attack
What is a combination panic?
After the first panic attack the person gets stuck in panic mode and is afraid the attack will happen again
What is phobic anxiety?
Instinctive fear of a specific object
What is the best way to treat phobias?
Gradual exposure
What is social phobia and where does it come from?
Fear of the way people will perceive, look at or judge you.
Comes from self criticism
What is agoraphobia?
Due to a previous panic attack there is a fear of people or crowds or location
How do you treat agoraphobia?
Gradual exposure to widen the acceptable space
What is generalized anxiety?
Anxiety directed toward any and everything. Ea moment think things will go wrong. Always think negatively
What is OCD
A person performs rituals to feel safe. These can increase in complexity and severity over time
What can cause OCD
Too much pressure. Too many limits
What can cause PTSD
Severe trauma
How can we tell if the PTSD is real
The paitent often dreams of it
What is important when treating PTSD
Putting as much distance as possible between the person and the trigger
What is a somatform disorder?
People who are preoccupied with thier appearance and see themselves in a way that they are not
What is hypochondria?
People who think they have a sickness or disease and become preoccupied with it
What is soma trouble?
Real pain with no cause - power of the mind to create real tension
What is de personalization
Loss of sense of self. Look in the mirror and see yourself but don’t recognize self
What is memory syndrome?
Dissociation from past and certain memories
What is the syndrome where you think you are different from other human beings eg a god or alien?
Dissociation from people
What is bulimia
Binge purge cycle - all about restriction - pressure of restriction builds up
What is the most common cause of primary insomnia?
Anxiety - tension in body so can’t relax.
What is the underlying cause of narcolepsy?
An attempt to escape life
What is the underlying cause of Hypersomnia
Attempt to escape life. If normally good this could be a bout of depression
