Q

What do the radial, ulnar and median nerves innervate in the hand?

A

Median=thumb, pointer and half of ring finger. (remmeber it takes two nerve to make a marriage)

ULNAR=little and half of ring finger

Q

What muscle, nerve and nerve root does foot dorsiflexion?

A

anterior compartment of the leg including Tibialis anterior- peroneal nerve-L4/L5.
other muscles are: gastrocnemius, soleus, plantaris

17
Q

What muscle, nerve and nerve root does foot plantarflexion?

A

L5/S1- tibiliaris posterior- tibial nerve

other muscles of the posterior comparment include extensor hallucis longus and extensor digitorum longus

18
Q

What can damage to the peroneal nerve cause and what is this one of the first symptoms of?

A

Can get foot drop, which is the first presentation of MND

19
Q

What do the dermatomes of the lower limb innervate?

A
L1- top of thigh and groin
L2-thigh
L3-knee
L4-Over tibia
L5-top of foot
S1-bottom of foot laterally or the sole
20
Q

Whats the difference between an EMG and a nerve conduction study?

A
  • nerve conduction studies –records speed. If small, then indicates axon loss due to DM or alcohol. If slow indicates demyelination by GBS. NEUROPATHIES
  • EMG- ask to contract muscle- small wave means muscle problem and large wave means nerve problem-Myasthenia gravis. Anti ACh-R in blood. Time in between contraction of the muscle fiber varies
