Management of neuropathic pain

A

Amitriptyline - TCA
Duloxetine - SNRI
Gabapentin - anticonvulsant
Pregabalin - anticonvulsant

Other options:

  • tramadol- rescue for short term control of flares
  • physiotherapy for strength
  • psychological input

A

Abnormal nerve functioning causing abnormal sensations

Usually isolated to 1 limb

Area can be:

  • painful
  • hypersensitive
  • intermittent swelling
  • change of colour
  • change of temperature
  • flush with blood
  • abnormal sweating
