Neurons and Glia Flashcards
How many genes take part in humans
Approximately 20000 genes
How would the expression of gene vary across the body?
Differenet body regions tend to have different gene influences and mostly different genes replicate at different phase of the growth.
Most complex cells of the body?
Neuros are the most complex cells of the body.
How would mutation and environmental effects affect the brain development?
Mutation of every gene that is represented in the brain will ultimately result in any sort of pathalogical condition and external environments also could potentially affect the gene formation by changing the level of the gene is represented as protein.
How gene in the CNS can influence ?
It could infleunce in either in the early neural patterning and later synaptic assembly
Two types of cells in the nervous system?
Nerve cells
Glia (neuroglia)
Primary cell of the nervous system?
Nerve cells
What kind of cells provide support and nurture the nervous system?
Glia Cells
What kind of cells are excitable?
Nerve cells
how many neurons and synapses are in human?
10^11 neurons and 10^14 synapses.
Where are the nerve cells found in vertebrates?
They are found in the brain and spine ( Mostly in the cns) and ganglia of the PNS
Do nerve cells divide and what cell is the exception?
Nerve cells don’t divide , fetal nerve cells lose their ability to undergo mitosis.
Neural stem cells are an exception.
Does nerve cells require higher amount of oxygen and glucose , does it have higher metabolic rate?
Yes
how many axons does neuron have?
Only one
Is there any protein synthesis happen in the axon?
No
