Neurons Flashcards
What happens when the action potential reaches the axon terminal
Chemicals are released in the synaptic cleft.
What happens when a pre synaptic cell is active?
An electrical current (called action potential) is propagate down the length of the axon.
Synaptic Potential
Conducted passively through dendrites and soma of the postsynaptic neurone.
When is an action potential triggered ?
It’s triggered if the passive currents are sufficiently strong when they reach the beginning of an axon in the postsynaptic neurone.
What is passive conduction ?
Tends to be of short range because the electrical signal is impeded by the resistance of the surrounding matter.
What is active conduction?
It enables long range signalling between neurons by the propagation of action potential.
