Neurones Flashcards
1
Q
What is a neurone?
A
A specialised cells designated to transmit information to other neurones, glands and cells.
—> They transmit information electrically and chemically
- There are over 100 Billions neurones in a person and 80% are present in the brain
2
Q
Why are the 3 types of neurones?
A
Sensory neurones
Motor neurones
Relay neurones
3
Q
Sensory Neurones
A
- Carry messages from the PNS to the CNS
—> pseudo unipolar
—> takes in information from the environment (five senses)
4
Q
Relay Neurones
A
- Connect the sensory neurones to the motor neurones
—> make up 97% of neurones in the brain
—> helps complete complex functions like decision-making
5
Q
Motor Neurones
A
- connects the CNS to effectors such as muscles and glands
—> releases neurotransmitters to trigger responses leading to muscle movement
—> upper and lower motor neurones
