Neuromusculoskeletal Assessment Flashcards
1
Q
what is involved/ some stages behind hypothetico-deductive reasoning?
A
- Physio gains initial clues about the pt problem through the subjective assessment which forms an initial hypothesis
- Further data is collected during the objective assessment = confirms or negates the hypothesis
- Continued hypothesis generation can occur during the management and reassessment
- Reflection after the initial assessment/ subsequent sessions = helps the therapist to recognise patterns (reflection being essential tool to develop clinical reasoning)
2
Q
What are the 7 steps to hypothetico-deductive reasoning?
A
- Identify a broad problem area
- Define the problem statement
- Develop hypothesis
- Determine measures
- Data collection
- Data analysis
- Interpretation of data
3
Q
By the end an MSK assessment, what do you want to know?
A
- A problem list - pain, difficult with activities etc
- clinical diagnosis/ possible differential diagnoses
- Contributing factors to the problem (Internal + External factors)
- The patient’s goals
4
Q
What are internal and external factors (problem list)
A
- Internal factors = motor control/ mobility (including flexibility)/ stability (including strength)
- External factors = training regimen, footwear, equipment, surface, etc
5
Q
