Neuromuscular Objective assessment (outcome measures included) Flashcards
What general observations should be made prior to the assessment?
Check pt posture - research has concluded that posture has a screening of static posture prior to movement ability/ dynamic movements is essential in highlighting any imbalances
Observation of muscle form
Observation of gait
Observation of pts attitudes and feelings
Functional movement
Joint specific testing
what is an outcome measure for hyoermobility?
Beighton Score = Score of 4/9 or greater – positive indicator of hypermobility syndrome
Name some balance assessments
Berg balance scale
Timed up and go
Five times sit to stand
How to assess muscle strength?
Oxford Muscle Strength + Grading Scale (oxford scale), within the assessment you need to consider the pt position, visibility & palpation of muscle/ structures.
- 0 = no contraction
- 1 = flickers but no movement
- 2 = movement with gravity eliminated
- 3 = movement against gravity only
- 4 = movement against gravity with some resistance
- 5 = movement against gravity with full resistance
