Neuromuscular Relaxants Flashcards
1
Q
What do neuro.mu relaxants do?
A
selectively block the nicky R at the NMJ
2
Q
How can a degree of mu relaxation be achieved?
A
by blockade of interneurons at the level of the spinal cord
3
Q
(Which one is less selective? What is it limited to?)
A
blockade of interneurons at the level of the SC. (limited to tx of mu spasms due to injury, upper motor neuron dysfunction or certain ortho)
4
Q
(What are the five main uses?)
A
- tx of spastic muscle conditions
- relaxation of larynx for endotracheal intubation
- to prevent muscular contraction during ECST
- relaxation of chest during mechanical ventilation
- adjuvant to anesthesia during surgery
