Q

Epidural Hematoma

A

Condition in which blood leaks into the epidural space.

originates from meningeal arteries under the cranium

as blood accumulates in the skull, expansion squeezes out normal liquid contents - CSF is forced out first-

O2 delivery is compromised, anaerobic metabolism occurs in the affected brain cells.

S/S DONT HAPPEN UNTIL HOURS LATER

Q

Subdural Hematoma

A

Accumulation of blood between the dura mater and arachnoid membrane. Involves venous bleeding.

S/S MAY NOT show for several hours or DAYS after the incident.

Q

Monro-Kellie Doctrine

A

The volume of the intracranial contents doesn’t change.

A mass results in squeezing out of an equal volume of CSF and venous blood, the ICP remains normal.

Exponential increase in ICP
