What is fascioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy?
Progressive difficulty whistling or sucking through a straw.
Dominantly inherited
Winging of the scapula is the most characteristic sign.
What drug induces Parkinsonism?
Antipsychotics (Parkinsonism usually appears within 10 weeks of starting the drug).
1st Generation antipsychotics - haloperidol, chlorpromazine, flupentixol and fluphenazine.
Anti-emetics: Prochloperazine & Metoclopramide.
What is Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease?
Prion disease - with hypersomnia, insomnia, parasomnia, restless legs and periodic limb movements of sleep all being reported.
What is the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease?
Dopamine depletion within the brain, hence why majority of treatment is related to increasing dopamine store and action.
Features of Duchenne muscular dystrophy?
waddling gait
Climbing up legs using the hands when rising from the floor
What is myotonic dystrophy?
Autosomal dominant
Features: facial weakness, ptosis, early frontal balding, atrophy of jaw muscles, cataracts
What is the term used to describe worsening of neurologic symptom when the body is overheated?
Uhthoff’s phenomenon
